I did Kenpo X yesterday morning. I I always enjoyed the workout because it was the only one that went by the quickest. The PX90 program is great, however at this point I just need to be doing something. If I do Kenpo 3 times a week that’s better than nothing. right?
Hello gang. Well after no hiking this summer and no working out my hip doesn’t bother me but then again I’m not doing anything to warrant discomfort. I did Chest and Back last Monday and then Shoulders and Arms last Wed of the PX90 for old time sakes. I think this blog is probably going to go to the way side unless I either get a dose of… I want to work out or I find somebody to take over the blog for me.
Looks like I failed the PX90. Not me not now that’s what I’m saying to this workout for now. Maybe one day I’ll pick it up again. So until then, good luck to all of you who attempt and complete the program.
I went to the hip doctor again yesterday. That was the third time I’ve gone. Since the first time my flexibility and hip strength has greatly increased. I walked on a treadmill for 15 minutes at an 8% grade without incident. The odd thing was that my right glutes, the lower part of my right butt cheek, felt odd. It didn’t hurt it felt as though I was doing lunges. The physical therapist said I was feeling that because up until now (and from the time I hurt my hip) I haven’t been using that muscle. I’ve been walking in a non productive, and rather destructive, manor. That’s crazy!
So the PX90 has been on hold for nearly a month now as I haven’t wanted to agitate my hip. The doctor told me yesterday that I should go on a moderate hike to see what happens. Yay! I replied. So early next week I’m going hiking, assuming all goes well I’ll start on phase II (week 5) of PX90 in a week or so.
I’m looking forward to getting back to it. I finally got my spare AC back from my friend, so doing workouts in 90 degree weather shouldn’t pose a problem.
I went to a physical therapist last week regarding my hip. I had never been to one before so the whole thing was new to me. The doctor examined my back as I attempted to touch my toes, “Oh geesh” she said. Then she told me to raise my left knee to my chest, then the right. “Hmm”, she sighed. At this point I asked her what the problem was. She explained that a muscle near my tail bone, on the right side, was locked up. This would certainly cause strain to both the right and left hip.
She had me lie on this hard bed as she tested the strength of my hips and legs. After about 5 minutes of that my right hip was hurting. She did some maneuvers to “unlock” the locked muscle. Apparently that worked cause I had more range of motion when she was done.
She gave me some hip exercises to do for the next week. She also gave me some hamstring exercises. Apparently I have EXTREMELY tight hamstrings which was also aid the problem. So a few exercises to be performed multiple times a day, going back this week to get an ultra sound. The hip muscle is inflamed so something about the ultra sound will alleviate the inflammation. Quite honestly I don’t know how it all works but I do know this: She told me no hiking or unnecessary stress on the hips for a month.
The question one should ask is what is unnecessary… Well being that PX90 is extreme, I would have to think Plyometrics, the leg portion of Legs & Back, the kicking portion of Kenpo X, and Ab Ripper X are unnecessary. Starting today I’m skipping those workouts and/or routines until the doctor and/or think I am fit to continue them.
I will be substituting those workouts with Stretch X, it seems fitting that I should increase my stretching as part of the reason I’m in this mess is due to insufficient flexibility. Alas, I am angry that I have taken 2 weeks off from working out and now I am on the injured list. I can’t hike. Boo Hoo.
Last week my coworkers were on vacation, which flooded me with more work than usual. I only did my workout on Monday. I skipped yesterday and today. This week I have no excuses. I’m going to pick back up with back and biceps tomorrow, I’ll finish the rest of the px90 workouts but I’m gonna treat this as a void week. Next week I’ll do week 6 and continue as normal.
After much nagging from my hiking buddy I’m going to go to a physical therapist tomorrow regarding my hip. I went to my primary a few weeks ago only to walk away with a referral. So as of now we know it isn’t fractured but that’s about it. Hopefully I leave tomorrow’s appointment with a more satisfying answer.
Pictures don’t really need to be posted cause I haven’t worked out. The pictures are just depressing cause there are no changes. I’ll post this Sunday, perhaps I’ll drench myself in baby oil to look all shiny and cut… then again I don’t think I’m going to do that.
I don’t want to take today off but I’m thinking of doing Stretch X and leaving it at that. My back is still a little tweaky and I don’t want to hurt myself. I’ve yet to do Stretch X, so I’ll review it later.
I skipped my px90 workout today. I woke up very sore and stiff. My back has been a little tweaky lately. Rather than risk injury I decided to take today off. I’m going to shift my workouts by one day skipping Legs and Back. So tomorrow I’ll do Plyo, then back and biceps, Yoga, and then finishing the week with Kenpo X. I’m also thinking I really need to start doing Stretch X on the 7th day.
Monday’s workout went well. Although I can’t do a one armed pushup to save my life. I thought I was going to break my arm supporting myself. According to Tony on the video there’s a trick to everything… however I don’t know what the trick is for those pushups ’cause it aint working for me.
I skpped out on last weeks pictures, however, as always nothing to see here. Saturday night I played poker with friends. This girl I haven’t seen in over 6 months asked if I’ve been working out. Apparently she can see something with my clothes on that I [and you] can’t see with my clothes on. Must be an optical illusion.
This is the start of the 6th week, at the end of this week I’ll officially be half way through the px90 program. I’m psyched about it, are you?
I need to finish my oatmeal, digest and hit todays workout.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get to Back and Biceps yesterday like I was supposed to, however I did do it today. I actually just finished it now. Holy Shit, my arms are rocks right now. Like Monday’s workout this workout is 24 sets of different exercise, some you’ve seen many are new.
All in all I did well but I think my back isn’t improving. Chest, Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps are improving but Back is not. Today was disappointing in that regards. I couldn’t do any of the old or new pull ups with out the use of the chair. 5 weeks in and this happens. The odd part is I can feel my back muscles when I’m walking around, driving in the car or lying in bed. I couldn’t feel them 5 weeks ago. So I have to assume I’m doing something right… but the weights aren’t increasing, the reps aren’t increasing and the chair is still a must. I think I’m gonna go back to using the px90 recovery drink when I’m working out my back. It’s been personally proven to increase strength and stamina while flowing through my veins.
I did chest, shoulders & triceps yesterday. During phase I the workouts are comprised of doing a few sets and then repeating. This workout has 24 different exercises. Muscle confusion is at the heart of this workout because each exercise is different, there’s no going back for a second set to do it right if you didn’t bring it the first time. Sometimes not having the second set to make adjustments is bad. For a number of exercises I felt my weight to low, and for others I was dying after 3 - 4 reps. I suggest you make notes for this workout regarding which weights you used but were they to low or to high.
The only exercise I couldn’t do was the 1 armed pushup, uh, and the clap pushup was impossible but I modified and went to my knees. The only way to modify the 1 arm pushup is to use 2 arms, so that exercise got a FAT 0. The bent knee clap pushups were still very difficult, I got 2 done.
Overall it was a good workout, and to think I was about to skip it. I didn’t start the workout until 9pm, so it was a little rough getting through the warm up, but in the end, and more so this morning I’m feeling it.
High Five! I did Kenpo X today. Nice way to end rest week. Or super rest week if you want to consider the fact I missed 5/6 px90 workouts. Well I did it and I’m glad too. I have that great feeling that I’ve nearly forgotten from not doing my workouts. Missing the entire week would have made next week (phase 2) rather rough so thank god I manned up and Brought It. Tomorrow I go home so I need to post this and be social for my last night. Looks like everybody’s watching Cloverfield, hopefully it doesn’t suck.
Ugh. Somebody please kick my ass. I haven’t done anything this week. Today is my favorite workout so one would hope at the very least I would complete it today. I’m off to a zoo momentarily, haven’t been to a zoo in a few years so it should be fun. As for Kenpo X, let’s just see.
So I arrived in Michigan yesterday. I’m here until Sunday. I had planned to do my px90 workout this morning but I opted to sleep in. I’m going to do it tonight after the game. I’m going to a Detroit Tigers game with family at 1. I’m not much of a baseball fan, actually I’m not one at all, but they want to go so I’m not going to be the stick in the mud. Well I’m being prodded to take a shower. If you’d like to flip on your TV around 1 perhaps you can see me sitting in the outfield, I’ll be the guy with the ecstatic look on his face. Bye for now.
Hello loyal fans. It was 95 yesterday and it is 92 today not counting humidity. I don’t have an air conditioner in my living room. PX90 cannot occur until this is taken care of. I’m not one for killing myself. I feel bad but the good news is the weather is supposed to break tonight, and it is rest week. I’ll holler some more when when I have more to write.
Today officially starts my first px90 rest week. It is also 95 degrees outside and the AC isn’t in the living room. It looks like I’m going to hold off on my workout until the sun sets. I went to the doctor about my hip. He referred me to a physical therapist. My primary doesn’t believe it to be a fracture but rather some type of muscle strain. Hopefully next week I can get an appointment. I have to jet now, but I’ll write more later.
